About the role
Warakirri College Limited (WCL) is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified people wishing to join the College Board of Directors.
Warakirri is an independent high school with campuses in Blacktown, Fairfield, two in Campbelltown and a Distance Education Campus. These serve young people completing Year 10 and Higher School Certificate (HSC) studies. The College accepts students with challenging life circumstances, aged 15–22 who have disconnected from mainstream education or who don’t feel comfortable in a traditional school.
Warakirri means ‘to stand and grow’. To help our students grow and achieve, Warakirri offers a diverse, innovative program and a positive, flexible, adult learning environment. Teachers help students build confidence, manage challenges in their life and work towards their academic and post school goals. The organisation has a Strategic Plan which focuses on growing new campuses and enhancing the holistic education provided to students. Social Impact for Young People
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of, and considerable experience in, the social purpose and youth services sector. An understanding of the sector’s role in improving the social and economic wellbeing of disadvantaged young people, with considerable experience in Child Safeguarding practices.
Commercial Leadership
This role requires an individual with commercial experience and oversight of an organisation’s corporate functions as well as experience in property development and management. Some exposure to education environments would be desirable.
The Board meets six times a year (mix of face to face and video conference), plus subcommittee meetings and occasional involvement in other events like an annual strategy day, award ceremonies, etc.
The Board will ensure it has the necessary skills, knowledge and experience required to govern the organisation effectively. The following information is aimed at assisting potential Directors to assess their suitability for appointment.
As part of the current renewal process, and having reviewed the current Board’s Skill Matrix, as well as the Personal Qualities and Competencies outlined below, WCL is seeking EOI from potential Directors. Specifically, we are seeking EOIs from candidates for two roles that address the background and experience outlined below and we particularly welcome applications from CALD backgrounds:
